You’ve seen those iron fences and boy do they stand out from the rest.  Yes, they may not provide as much privacy as your typical wooden fence. But maybe that’s not a concern for you at all, you want to be able to show off your outer landscape.  You want others to appreciate your beautifully maintained landscape. You want your fence to complement your entire property instead of putting a cover around it.

These bad boys are made of something that we call carbon alloy.  It is what allows these iron fences to be molded into unique and beautiful designs.  Unlike wooden or chain link fences that all essentially look one and the same, wrought iron fences give you the ability to put your own personal and unique touch to your residence.  
With aesthetic enhancements come increased costs.  These fences usually come for a range of $30 to $40 per foot. With the above-average installation cost due to its heavy plantation requirements, you are looking at a relatively higher cost than that of a wooden fence.

Benefits of Wrought Iron Fence

So it does not provide what a fence usually does in privacy, coupled with its higher costs, why then should you even consider a wrought iron fence?
Simple, it enhances and beautifies your outer area.  For some of us, its aesthetically pleasing nature far surpasses the need for privacy.  But, let’s not think that it is the only thing that has going for it. Besides the good looks, there are plenty of reasons to consider this as your choice of fence.
For one, it is very strong and durable.  Those hail storms or windy, stormy weather may knock your everyday wooden fence out like Ali did Frasier.  But our iron fence will have everything and then some to take everything mother nature has to throw at it and still remain standing.  
While there’s not much privacy, there’s arguably more security than a wooden fence here.  Those pointed pickets up top will have any bad egg thinking twice before scaling your fence.

Maintenance

Like with any aspect of your home or outer area, fences requirement some form of maintenance.  Yes, even our stronger than nails fence. If you’d like to see your wrought iron fence last as long as it can then just some basic maintenance habits will go a long way in doing just that.  As with anything metal, you’re ought to experience some rusting. This can be expedited by rain, snow, and accumulating ice. This is why we suggest proactively applying a rust-resistant finish after every winter season, rust or no rust.
Keep any vines or plants that may harm the material as far away as possible.  A small scratch is sufficient to start the rusting process.

Another regular maintenance tip is to simply wash with soap and water. Rinse and dry as needed.  What this does is it obviously helps keep it nice and clean. Moreso it will discourage corrosion.

In the event rust does start to appear, you should wash it and then remove it with steel wool.   Alternatively, you can use a sandpaper to rub away the rust (can also be done with a wire brush).  Then proceed to apply some wax to reduce any further rust.
